Ranga Panchami or Holi or Both?

I happened to visit my Tai's place and there started a discussion that tomorrow ( 1st March)they will be playing colours. But in our State this day (a day after Full moon day) is celebrated as Dhulwad ( mud flinging literally :-P )and festival of colours on fifth day (i.e. 5th March this year) since last 100 years at least. We stay in Maharashtra and contrary to our schedule, festival of colour is celebrated on Holi day itself in North India. In addition to this, perception changing bollywood fraternity also plays colours on Holi. Now having said above things, there are lot of people who migrated from North India and equal number of Maharashtrian who follow filmi people started playing colours on Holi day in Pune.
Obviously local people who are following tradition of Ranga Panchami since ages got bemused as to when to celebrate this wonderful festival actually as this is the celebration where people come together forgetting religion, gender and age ( too idealistic thought of me :-) ). Adding to this confusion is official holiday declared by Government, schools and offices on the day of Holi and not on Ranga Panchami.
Can anybody clear me as to what the logic is because i dont find anybody as confused as me over the last five years? Not a single political party who shouts from the ( in marathi we call it as Benbichya DeThapasana ) inner of his stomach for the cause of Marathi people have taken this issue. May be they have exempted this issue intelligently like other issues such as name of premiere institute IIT Bombay ( At least i never heard any party protesting against this name and is on fast unto death to change it to IIT Mumbai) because it is out of their reach.
Oh, O O....O let me get out of Politics, i dont want to make it issue but just want to have single day where everybody can mingle with others and not stay at home confused :-o . Also people need not waste their clothes and take extra care twice in a week since colour mongers are in legion here.
Somebody has said to be at extremes is always beneficial. How?
People who really want to play colours play on both days and who hate to play keep away always !
